Canmore Leader
Jamie Findlay is up for a little friendly competition.
He is waging a challenge against the Town of Canmore to see which organization of the two, his being Bow Valley Builders and Developers Association, can donate more units of blood to the Canadian Blood Services through the Partners for Life program.
The challenge is spread over the three upcoming dates, July 12, Sept. 13, and Nov. 22. which are the days that the Canadian Blood Services will hold blood clinics.
Findlay said the idea was a simple one.
"I heard the presentation to the Canmore council about the Partners for Life program, and I knew that several of our BOWDA board members actively donate blood," he said. "So,I thought partnering up by challenging the town, to see who could come up with the most blood donations, was a good idea."
He also said that the town didn't hesitate to meet his proposition.
"I was quite impressed," he said. "The town jumped on board right away. They are certainly willing to throw their hats in the ring, and it's certainly commendable. It will be interesting to see how this works out."
Findlay knows how significant it is to donate blood.
"It's critical for instances when people need blood, whether it's because of an accident or surgery," he said. "Whenever you have a chance to help someone else out, it's important to do it."
The July 12 blood clinic is going to be held at the Canmore Inn, from 12-3 p.m. and then 4-7 p.m.
Appointments are recommended, and can be made at 1-888-236-6283.
People between the ages of 17-71 can donate blood every 56 days. Donors are required to bring their donor card or photo and signature ID.
